Growing a Hybrit landscape
Using the word hybrid as a starting point, the environment for HyBrit 06 has been created using key considerations such as crossbreeding, blurring of boundaries, parasitic co-existence and multifaceted viewpoints.
Taking hints from the order in nature for a hybrid/hybrit environment, a modular and variable system has been developed for a landscape to grow and manifest itself within the shopping complex of Raffles City. Verbs — such as fruiting, flowering and creeping — that describe movements of growth drive the morphology of the space as well as the graphics of HyBrit 06.
The process is an intention to emulate the intrinsic qualities of growth in nature to achieve experiences of multiplicity and this parallels the spontaneity found in the coexistence and exchange between the UK and Singapore designers in HyBrit 06.
HyBrit06 is a collaboration with lighting designer, Lim Woan Wen; interactive designer, Lei; and design duo Tabernacles.
